Researching a New Medicare Plan? Start Here!

So, you’ve reached the great 65! It’s a milestone that’s worth celebrating with Medicare health insurance. After all, being healthy is the first requisite to a well-lived life.

But how do you actually how to go about it? Fortunately for you, there is no shortage of information about health and life insurance. You would probably even have more problems navigating through this wealth of information than running into accessibility issues. You can discuss with your physician, if your family member, a concerned friend, or your home health aide haven’t already. You can also peruse official Medicare materials. However, you can’t possibly be truly ready without consulting an actual professional in the field.

I can be this professional who can guide you to make the right decision. I’ve been a principal insurance advisor in Troy, Michigan for over 20 years already, representing the 60 or so top-rated insurance companies in the country through my company American Insurance Advisors. I don’t believe in one-fits-all solutions; I believe the best policy you can buy depends on who you are.

To help you begin, here’s a briefer on what your choices are.

You can get your Medicare coverage through two plans, the Original Medicare (Part A and Part B) or the Medicare Advantage Plan (Part C). Depending on your needs, you may have to get additional coverage, such as in the form of a Medicare prescription drug coverage (Part D) or Medicare Supplement Insurance or Medigap.

So, what does each plan entail? Below are the most basic features you need to know.

  • Original Medicare (Part A and Part B)
    • Part A and Part B refer to hospital insurance and medical insurance, respectively. You can see any doctor or hospital anywhere in the country as long as they take Medicare.
    • For your drug coverage, you can opt for a separate Medicare drug plan or Part D.
    • You may also choose to add supplemental coverage through Medicare Supplement Insurance or Medigap for out-of-the-pocket expenses.
  • Medicare Advantage (Part C)
    • Compared to Original Medicare where your hospital and medical expenses are the only ones covered, Medicare Advantage covers Part A, Part B, and Part D.
    • This is ideal when you are looking to save since it has lower out-of-pocket costs than Original Medicare.
    • It also has extra benefits such as vision, dental, and hearing coverage which aren’t usually covered by Original Medicare.
    • Not all doctors and hospitals accept Medicare Advantage plan, instead, there’s a fixed network of doctors and hospitals that can accommodate your insurance plan in Michigan.

I hope the above briefer helped! Unfortunately, we’ve only scratched the surface. I’ll be more than glad to guide you through the ins-and-outs of getting a new Medicare insurance, simply give me a call today!
